But curses? My girl Miranda knew curses inside and out. “Not that I’d ever use a curse,” she said indignantly. “That kind of magic is for fools. It takes as much as it gives. Because the magic wants balance, even if it's sucking it directly from your soul.” I could hear her flicking pages, with the soft voice of Wilde in the background. “But they are an individual thing, so if anyone has any copies of his grimoire or even familiarity with his practices, that’ll help. The incubus says you have to bond to break the curse?”

I looked through the window at Vali, who was talking in a low voice to Judge and Walker. Tex was napping beside Judge, probably because jetlag had finally caught up with him.

“Yeah, but I’m not sure exactly what that entails.”

Miranda snorted. “Yes, you do.”

I huffed an annoyed breath. “Fine, I know it involves sex, because duh, but that can’t be all, right? Otherwise, every time a succubus and an incubus did the forbidden hokey-pokey, they’d bond. That doesn’t sound ideal to me.”

“The forbidden... You know, there might actually be something wrong with you,” she said seriously, and I couldn’t help but laugh. I could hear chuckles in the background, but Miranda just continued. “Look, I’ll keep looking into it, but this isn’t our area of expertise. The incubi and the succubi were already gone by the time North America was discovered. It might be worth asking the local Council leader.” There was muffled cussing from Wilde. “On second thoughts, Wilde said he’s a fucking asshole who wouldn’t know a hex from a hat trick. Will the vampire Council over there help? Or the Capi?”

I snorted. Un-fucking-likely. But then I remembered the horny old witch I’d been talking to before shit went down at the ball.

“I might know someone.”
